7 Candy-Free Halloween Treats

October 17, 2024

Three children trick-or-treating.

Halloween is just a few short weeks away, which means its time to stock up on treats for the neighborhood boys and ghouls! But if you’re feeling a bit scared of contributing to their massive haul of all that sugar, consider giving out some candy-free treats this year! If you’d like some tooth-friendly alternatives, keep reading for some spooky inspiration!

School Supplies

Everyone needs more pencils, pens, crayons and fun shaped erasers, and by now the kiddos have probably started to use up the new ones they got at the start of the semester. Why not help restock their backpacks with Halloween themed versions to keep the fun of the season going a little bit longer!

Temporary Tattoos

Temporary tattoos are a fun, safe, and mess-free way for kids to showcase their personalities. Whether you choose a Halloween theme or look for a popular character, they’ll have fun showing off their “ink” to their friends without any risk to their teeth!

Small Toys

Your party supply store is a treasure trove of tiny toys that make great Halloween giveaways. Tiny yoyos, bead puzzles, sticky hands, squishy toys, rubber balls, and other fun novelties are great candy-free alternatives that will keep kids entertained.

Trading Cards

Kids love to collect and trade cards from their favorite shows and video games. Pokémon cards are a perennial favorite, or you can try sports cards too!

Fast Food Gift Coupons

Some fast-food restaurants offer dollar-value coupons that are perfect for passing out to trick-or-treaters. Treat your neighbors to a cone (if the machine is working) or a small fry on their next trip to your local burger joint!

Lip Balm

With cooler temps on their way and dry air always an issue, lip balm is an absolute must.  Help the neighborhood kids keep their lips hydrated and pain-free with a fun flavored lip balm they can keep in their backpacks for the upcoming winter months.

Glow Sticks

Glow sticks are fun and functional. They not only turn cool colors when snapped, but they can help kids see better and be more visible if trick-or-treating after dark. Best of all, parents like them because they only last a few hours and then they can be thrown away so there’s no extra clutter hanging around the house!

What to Avoid

Part of participating in handing out treats is being a good neighbor, so be sure to avoid some of these messy treats:

  • Stickers
  • Slime
  • Dough
  • Noisemakers or whistles
  • Anything with lots of small parts

Remember, Halloween is meant to be fun, so have a good time handing out whatever treat you choose! It’ll all be worth it when you see those healthy, happy smiles at your door!
